The first tip for this, is to have a pen/pencil with good ink, some sort of counting gadget (I use the counter on D/P)
A DS, and the game you are hunting Shinies on
Although I'm not an experienced Shiny hunter, I have the basics to make things easier
What you should/can do for WILD Encounters:
-Every 10 wild encounters, make a slash mark, you can use the -/-/-/-/- marking, that's just what I do to make it easier to read
-Bear in mind you will be doing this for a while, shinies usually don't come in the first 1000 encounters, sometimes it can
fluke on you and you will take more than 10000 encounters! It's just about perseverance
-Do something other than encounter then run, if you get bored easy, training a few pokemon to 100 seems to make
it a little less dull, at least for me (I have ADHD)
-Have Ultra Balls, but if you are going for lower evolution shinies, bring a few dozen Premier balls
every 10 pokeballs (reg) you buy at a store, they give you 1 premier, they are expensive, but are a bit more cosmetic
in making a shiny pokemon more worthwhile to find.
-MAKE SURE you are never hungry, and wide awake, if you see a shiny, you DO NOT want to K.O it or accidentally run away
and trust me, as soon as you see one, you will NEED to eat after you fail/catch it
-Catcher pokemon can help, make sure you have a pokemon who can make it sleep, and or paralyze it, paralyze is easier
-Researching the hunting location helps you get a better outlook on what you are able to find, I'm hunting in Victory Road (D)
and I can find Steelix, and Graveler... Steelix can use Double Edge, so false swipe is not advised, also, avoid pressure at all time's
GRAVELER CAN USE SELF DESTRUCT, if worse comes to worse, use the Masterball (I am holding on to it for a Shiny Giratina)
-Don't hunt for something you don't want, hunt where you find your favorite shiny at the most, if you want a shiny Chansey, hunt the Chansey when it is in a swarm (HG/SS)
-Try to record your efforts, it helps you, and us, and can help determine how lucky you are.
-Don't assume the next pokemon you see will be a Shiny, this demoralizes you, and puts you off from hunting Shinies, it is a slow process
if you already found a shiny by luck, NEVER expect to find another one as soon!
Tips for Stationary Legendaries:
-Soft Reset if you don't see a shiny (Simultaneously press Start/Select/RightB/LeftB)
-Hunt a worthwhile Shiny, don't go for something you will never use
-Always have a Masterball, even if you don't plan on using it, you may rethink that
-Save right in front of the Legendary, once before you approach it, and again right in front of it
This does not apply for Dialga/Palkia as when you approach them and enter a 5 step/4 step range, you are automatically forced to battle
-If you must use Ultra Balls, use the utmost caution (if they struggle, use your backup masterball)
-Take it seriously, or else you will quit.
If I ever get to tactics for shiny roaming Legendaries, or a guide on how to use the PokeRadar for chaining
You will be sure I have gotten a shiny from doing so
For those of you who just can't get a shiny
